MoDOT construction

Route 45 Bridges: BNSF Bridge

Project Details:

Bear Creek

Burlington Northern Railroad

verticle rule
Project Status: Project completed.

Why is MoDOT doing this project?

Higher traffic volumes and larger loads have made it necessary for MoDOT to address this ailing bridges.

Making repairs would have been costly and would require limitations. Continued maintenance would not be able to address the larger loads using this route. The best use for taxpayers’ money and the safest alternative is for MoDOT to make plans to replace the bridge while minimizing the impacts to the drivers as much as possible.

How does this project benefit me?

The Route 45 Bridges over Bear Creek and the BNSF Railroad have been replaced with two new structures to enhance the safety for 6900 motorists traveling through the area.  If no repairs are made to either bridge, the structures would soon become unsafe and have to be closed completely.

What is the project time line?

The BNSF Bridge will be complete by the end of 2011 with a new bridge built next to the existing structure.

How much does this project cost?

This estimated $6 million project is a cost-share effort between MoDOT and Kansas City Power & Light.
