KANSAS CITY, Mo. -The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed the southbound lanes of Route 69 at the Missouri River, the Fairfax Bridge, to allow bridge inspectors to safely conduct annual bridge inspections. The bridge will remain closed through the end of day on Thursday, May 17, weather permitting.
The Fairfax Bridge, built in 1934, carries 7,800 vehicles daily. During this closure, traffic may detour east to Route 9, then to Route 169 to the Broadway Bridge, or west on I-635 across the Missouri River, then to Kansas 5 for local access to the Fairfax District.
This bridge is inspected every year by MoDOT's statewide team and by local MoDOT inspectors on an alternating basis.
